TO ACCOMPLISH THEOBJECTIVE, ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, IN COOPERATION WITH CSX, WILLCONSTRUCT RAIL IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING ADDING NEW OR RENEWING EXISTING RAILROADTRACK, REPROFILING EXISTING TRACK, AND INSTALLING NEW TURNOUTS TO RECONFIGURE THEDOLTON JUNCTION INTERLOCKING. THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF CONSTRUCTION.

  Chicago-to-Moline (Quad Cities) Amtrak passenger service, announced October 25, 2010 with $230M in federal funding and a promised 2015 service start. BNSF-owned-track improvements and the Moline station are complete; the Wyanet-Moline segment on Iowa Interstate Railroad-owned track only reached a formal Preliminary Engineering agreement (IAIS/IDOT/BNSF/Amtrak) on September 30, 2024, now under FRA review. As of mid-2026, service has still not started (current target: 2027), and the federal funding underpinning the remaining work was set to expire July 31, 2026, with lawmakers publicly calling for an extension.
